Cyber security isn’t just a concern for large corporate organisations. We all now carry around these seemingly benign smartphones that make accessing work resource (e.g., email and collaboration tools like Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Workspace) more convenient, and help us to be more productive. Unfortunately, as highlighted by this recent post by Forbes Magazine, malware can still make its way onto official app stores like Google Play Store for Android.

The use of mobile phones for accessing work resources won’t be reducing any time soon. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t actively manage the adoption to ensure it enables all of the positive benefits, while still keeping our company, and reputation, safe. We should, we must.

Having basic cyber security policies, employee training, and tools can help mitigate most of the risks. Implementing these controls doesn’t have to be expensive or overly obtrusive, and they can bring additional benefits to any organisation. There is a lot of great help available, tailored specifically to the needs of any organisation size, e.g., the National Cyber Security Centre provides specific information, guidance and advice for self employed / sole traders, small & medium sized organisations, as well as professionals and individuals / families.

Take a little time to find out more the next time you get a cup of tea or a coffee. It will be time well spent, I guarantee it.
